The speaker for the evening was Sabrina Schirtzinger, OSU Extension Agent. She is the resource person for the Farmers’ Market and is the coordinator for the Master Gardener program.

Sabrina talked about “Going Vertical” in gardening, both for space saving and visual appeal. Many of her ideas stressed recycling and companion planting. She had pictures of rain boots and purses hung on fences, decorated bowling balls, mini greenhouses, tires, shower caddies, hanging shoe holders, gutter gardens and pallet gardens. Many of these ideas combined flowers and vegetables.

Door prizes were distributed and the pleasant and informative meeting was adjourned.

APPLE VALLEY GARDEN CLUB GUEST NIGHT The Apple Valley Garden Club invites you to its GUEST NIGHT, October 9th, 2013, at the Floral Valley Community Center. The program will be presented by Jon Minard, Knox County’s official “Eagle Watcher” on the topic of “The Bald Eagles of Knox County.” Since the mid 90’s, Jon has been observing and documenting Knox County Bald Eagles, their numbers, their nests and the number of surviving offspring. He knows the location of every nest in the County plus a few outside the County. Jon will have visuals, a map and other information to share. This program should prove to be interesting to anyone in the Knox County area. A 5:00 PM POTLUCK DINNER will precede the program. Please bring a food to share. Plates, cups, dinnerware and drinks will be provided by the Garden Club. To assist the committee in planning for this event it is very helpful to know how many people will attend. PLEASE notify Barb Bentz by October 2 of your intent via e-mail: pbentz@embarqmail.com. Include your name, number attending and a contact number.
