The newest garden club in region 7, Rising Sun Friends, meets in the home of Mary Lee Minor.
Here the members hold the completed fresh small designs, done at the April meeting.

The club has been sponsored by the Earth, Wind and Flowers Garden Club, Region 7, Bucyrus.
Mary Lee Minor and Janet Nance are members of the sponsoring group and of this new club.

After the monthly meeting activity is completed, the group enjoys talking, drinking green tea and coffee and eating many goodies which are shared by each member.

In the two years they have been meeting, the group has made pot pourri, sachets, pressed and framed floral art, made holiday centerpieces, embossed greeting cards, made shell craft ornaments, toured an organic vegetable farm, visited the one-room school house in Crawford County, and designed spring arrangements.    WOW!  Sounds like a fun group.

There is one constant. We meet at 9 in the morning and always dine well and talk into the afternoon. Today we made vinegar, watch a DVD on Hakkaido, Japan, and even dried roses in cornmeal and Borax.

Region 7 Decorates for Kingwood Center

Many designers from clubs throughout Region 7 met at Kingwood Center in Mansfield, Ohio to make arrangements to decorate the mansion for their event on May 7.
In addition, some were present to speak with the public on that Saturday and give them information about OAGC and the Garden Clubs that make up Region 7.

Chris Davis was kind enough to take pictures of the action and you can see them all by clicking on this link:

HOT OFF THE PRESS NEWS!!!!

Mary Lee Minor just released the first news about a wonderful opportunity for OAGC to take part in an event at Kingwood Center in Mansfield.

She will be bringing more news to the upcoming meetings and looking for volunteers to help with the project.   Please see the information below and plan on helping where you feel you can.

From Mary Lee:

Root Camp Outreach-        Strategic Planning, for the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs, Inc.

KINGWOOD CENTER   May 7, 2016

OAGC’s Strategic Planning Team has been able to get ‘a foot in the door’ at Kingwood Center

in Mansfield. On the special May Event day, May 7, 2016,  we have been offered a chance to make fresh floral designs for the former King Home.

One year ago, the Garden Clubs of Ohio held a flower show in the home.

We are too close to the event to pull this off. However, I think we can definitely create 20-24

fresh designs from our membership. There are several rooms, a hallway with mirrored designs,

a library, and a ballroom which is totally empty.

We are invited to create table settings for that ballroom area.

Bill Collins would like our members to be in place to talk with visitors on May 7.

We have permission to set up our OAGC display; we may even sell OAGC items and provide

a membership brochure. This we can localize for area garden clubs seeking new members.

Bill Collins would like to see this effort be an educational venture.

I believe this is the same goal we would have since it is inherent in our showing.

Here is what will/can happen:

-designers may work at Kingwood the day before the event, on May 6, a Friday.

   – Kingwood staff will cut fresh plant materials for us to use in designing; we would have to make

a list and let them know what we wish to use

   – we would make labels to identify the design types

   – we may use any of the containers at Kingwood; they will provide oasis, too

   – the ballroom is available for tables to be set….for 4 people or for 2 people; they have the tables

You may become involved as a club (those tables) or as a team making individual designs, or come

on your own as an individual designer. Some of you may want to make a design at home and

    deliver it later on Friday.

I have taken photographs of each location so that you may look over the possibilities.

We can make some HUGE designs, even a pair of floor designs, and many more that

would be in a normal-sized range.

Please know that we will need everyone’s help. You can help even if you consider yourself

a novice; we would help you design so that the experience would be a pleasure.

Email Mary Lee Minor at: chickadee@columbus,rr,com or call: 419-562-6377 to volunteer to

be part of this special OAGC outreach.
